5 Week embryo in uterus The amniotic sac is a fluid-filled sac that cocoons the developing embryo.The chorionic cavity surrounds the amniotic sac and is bounded by a membrane called the chorion.The embryo now measures 0.09 in (2.5mm).A fold down the back of the embryo marks the beginning of the spine.Chorionic villi reach into the wall of the uterus to form the placenta.The umbilica cord connecs the baby to the developing placenta.Embryonic tissues are already forming into a structure that will become the heart.The yolk sac nourishes the embryo until the placenta is established and can provide nutrients through its blood supply.
